NUS medicine ranks first in Asia in QS World University Rankings

NUS has emerged first in Asia and 18th globally in the field of medicine in the new QS World University Rankings? by Subject for Life Sciences and Medicine. In this ranking which also encompasses Biological Sciences and Psychology, NUS was placed 22nd for Psychology and 28th in Biological Sciences globally.

The rankings were based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research citations, with weightings tailored to each subject.

NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost Prof Tan Eng Chye said NUS is proud of the international recognition given to its achievements in Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology. "Top quality education and high impact research are central to NUS' mission. With the continued support of our outstanding faculty, staff and students, NUS is well-poised to ensure that our education and research continues to be at the cutting edge, as well as locally and globally relevant," he said.

Dean of NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Prof John Wong, who is also Isabel Chan Professor in Medical Sciences and Deputy Chief Executive of the National University Health System, felt honoured that the School of Medicine was ranked among Asia's many fine medical schools. "We are privileged to be recognised for the impact that our great faculty and students have made, and continue to make, in our common vision of doing our very best, be it in patient care, education, or research," he noted.

This latest set of rankings is the second instalment of the four-part release of a new series of QS World University Rankings by Subject launched in March this year. Rankings for Natural Sciences, Arts and Humanities as well as Social Sciences and Management will be released respectively in the coming months.
