We can forgive you if you've never heard of Daegu before.
The 3rd largest city in Korea, Daegu is located between Seoul and Busan - which makes it the central stop if you take the KTX!
But what's actually in Daegu?
Well, let's start with Daegu's nickname - Dae-frica.
A mix of 'Daegu' and 'Africa', it refers to the sweltering heat that the city is known for.
Yes, it can get hotter than Singapore sometimes, but it's usually about the same climate.
Why would anyone want to live in a place that gets hotter than Singapore? Well, here are a few reasons.
1. The people of Daegu are super friendly!
Perhaps in the same vein as how Singaporeans would find a common enemy in the heat, the people of Daegu seem to be united as one in hating the weather!
What this means is, if you visit and simply make a comment about the weather, it is very likely that you will endear yourself to the people around you.
They will also likely ask about your background if they find out that you aren't local! A perfect opportunity to make new friends.
2. They have a Chi-Maek festival!
'Festival' is a light way to put it - as the 5-day long event is more like a huge party event!
Featuring baseball stadium-turned clubs, chicken and beer everywhere you go and live music from DJs, it certainly makes for one epic night out.
And if you're not down to party - simply sit down and have a good meal together while soaking up the vibes!
3. There's lots to do!
Daegu has something for everyone - but not in the same way as Seoul!
The city has incredible scenery and temples for the spiritual folk!
And for sports fans, they're home to one of the most popular baseball teams in Korea, the Samsung Lions! They're also home to Daegu FC, a rising team in Korea's K League!
And of course, they have the trendy places you would expect for a metropolitan Korean city!
If all these reasons are enough to sway you, welcome to Daegu!
