Hey K-Foodies! We talked about seaweed snacks before, but you might not have known something - the importance of seaweed in the Korean diet! Today, we would like to feature the way to eat seaweed the Korean way, as well as introduce a brand of seaweed from Korea's #1 Seaweed Company, Monstergim!
Let's get it!
Lesson #1 - Koreans LOVE Their Seaweed!
Seaweed, known as Gim in Korean, has been part of the Korean diet from the Goryeo era. This can be seen from its use in dishes such as Miyeok Guk (Seaweed Soup), as a staple in many Korean meals.
However, it is more commonly eaten as a light snack throughout the day to curb those pesky hunger pangs, or while relaxing! It is also combined with other basic food items to spice up meals!
Fun fact, Miyeok Guk is also known as 'birthday soup', as many Koreans eat the dish on their birthdays!
Lesson #2 - Koreans Eat Seaweed With EVERYTHING!
Like Bruno Mars said, don't believe us? Just WATCH!
We were sceptical at first as well, but you really have no idea how much your average chap chye peng (mixed veg rice) or fried rice needed that savoury kick of spicy seaweed until you try it!
We guarantee that you won't regret it!
Lesson #3 - They Come In MANY Different Flavours!
Gone are the days of 'original flavour' being the end-all of seaweed snacks! Now, there exist flavours such as mouthwatering Mala, Spicy Chicken and even Cheese flavours! Who says seaweed isn't a trendy snack?
With so many different flavours, there's an flavour for any person and mood!
If all that has gotten you hungry to try seaweed, we have good news!
Monstergim is one of our favourites, combining unique spicy flavours with Korean seaweed for a simply delightful treat! They also have a really cute line-up of characters!
Even better, Monstergim is NOW having a SALE where you can enjoy up to 30% OFF Monstergim products!
