We all could use a little pick-me-up in the middle of any given day, when it gets too hectic! That's why we're here with the TOP 5 Korean snacks for that perfect burst of energy!
Let's get it!
1. Pepero
Could we start the list off with any other snack? Pepero is Korea's answer to other biscuit-stick snacks - and it has grown immensely popular in both Korea and the world over!
Interestingly, Pepero Day is a widely observed holiday in Korea (11th November, or 11.11 which looks like 4 Pepero sticks). It has questionable origins, and no-one is for sure if it was a mere business tool, but much like Valentine's Day, it's a holiday to show your love and affection for friends and loved ones! Maybe you'll find your true love this November!
2. Choco Pie
One of the most popular Korean snacks, Choco Pie is a national icon of South Korea! Often gifted and bought as a souvenir snack or gift, Choco Pie has become a part of Korean mainstream culture as one of its most iconic snacks!
There are a lot of different brands, but Orion is the original (there's actually a big story about how Lotte was seen to be infringing on their trademarked product) and is usually what Korean people buy at the shops. If you love marshmallow-ey chocolate-y goodness, pick up a pack of Choco Pies!
Fun Fact : Exports of choco pies to North Korea have been very popular, with North Korean workers receiving choco pies instead of the capitalistic cash bonuses. Ain't that interesting?
3. Homerun Ball
If you ever attend a baseball game in Korea, you will see people snacking on Homerun Ball! One of my favourite snacks, these choco biscuits are (to me) a more satisfying 'Hello Panda' sweet!
Eating this transports me back to a simpler time, snacking while watching the game with the roar of the crowd! It is also one of BTS Jimin's favourite snack!
4. Seaweed Snacks
Widely known in Singapore and the world, seaweed snacks have become a largely lately as a trendy menu item! Singaporeans have known Thai-based Tao Kae Noi, but Korean seaweed are well-known for their delicious, yet healthy properties!
Monstergim is one of our favourites, combining unique spicy flavours with Korean seaweed for a simply delightful treat! They also have a really cute line-up of characters! Check them out by clicking here!
5. Ghana Chocolate
No, this is not chocolate from Ghana - instead, it's another snack from the famed Lotte Confectionery company! The name is actually an homage to the country, being one of the world's largest exporters of cocoa beans!
One of the most popular brands of chocolate in Korea, it's been around since 1964 - and some say it launched the craze for chocolate in Korea. It also makes terrific gifts, which is why its a staple on romantic holidays (much like the aforementioned Pepero).
That does it for our list of the best Korean snacks for that mid-day burst of energy!
