Binge watching mukbangs on youtube got me craving for Korean fried chicken recently, so where better to go than Kko Kko Na Ra for my fried chicken fix courtesy of KORdotSIN’s $50 voucher!
I went to Kko Kko Na Ra’s Tanjong Pagar branch which is conveniently located in ‘Little Korea’, neighbours with many other Korean restaurants and supermarkets in the same row of shophouses.
Upon being seated, we were offered hand sanitiser – a sure proof that Kko Kko Na Ra has its ways to ensure hygiene!
The setting of the restaurant was warm and homely with its friendly vibes.
Kko Kko Na Ra offers a wide selection, from what its known best for – Korean fried chicken in various seasonings and sauces to fit different palates, to stews, pancakes and other mains like jokbal and barbequed pork. There is definitely something for everyone here!
My choice for today was original deep fried chicken ($15 for half a chicken which was about 9 pieces of various chicken parts ranging from drumsticks to breast meat) and dak bal (spicy chicken feet) ($28) which is something that I have only seen my favourite mukbang youtubers eating, but never tried before. So when I saw this on the menu, I knew that I had to get it!
While waiting for the food to come, we were served the banchan and I absolutely loved the unpretentious pickled radish cubes which were refreshing and came with a hint of spice thanks to the accompanying chilli padi.
Our food was served quickly enough, and I’ll let the pictures do the talking! The fried chicken was as good as one would expect it to be – fried to a crispy perfection, yet still bursting with juice and flavour when you bite into it. The restaurant also provides finger gloves (upon request) for those who prefer to use our hands to savour the finger-licking good chicken (after all, food always tastes better when eaten with hands, right ;)). I would recommend eating fried chicken with the radish cubes as it really elevated the dish to a whole new dimension!
The collagen-filled dak bal (good for ladies ;)) came with a boiled egg and was slightly spicy but there was nothing to worry about as my dining companion and I managed to score a free steamed egg after we posted our review of Kko Kko Na Ra’s food on social media (not that we wouldn’t have done it anyway 'cos their food deserves a shout-out, but it was a nice bonus!).
We ended the satisfying meal on a sweet note with two much appreciated balls of watermelon!
