Stars are making contributions to help with the prevention of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) as the number of cases continues to increase in South Korea.
On February 26, Sunmi posted a screenshot of her donation of 10 million won (approximately $8,200). She wrote, “I donated through the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Association. Please also pay attention to the safety of the medical team.”
Actor Ahn Jae Wook donated 20 million won (approximately $16,400) to the Korean National Red Cross in Daegu. He said, “I donated in hopes that the coronavirus would not spread anymore in the region of Daegu. I hope that it will contribute to the Red Cross’s quick response to giving safety and calm to many anxious people.” His donation will be used to make and deliver natural disaster relief supplies in the Daegu region including infectious disease prevention items such as masks and hand sanitizer as well as underwear, clothes, and personal hygiene items for patients in quarantine.
Park Hae Jin donated 500 disposable goggles and 1,000 masks to the staff of MBC drama “Old School Intern” (literal title). The actor previously filmed a safety video about proper procedures in relation to COVID-19 and donated all of his appearance fees and production costs.
Seoul’s Community Chest of Korea announced that Kim Woo Bin donated 100 million won (approximately $82,000) to be used towards coronavirus prevention and socially disadvantaged households. Kim Woo Bin said, “I recently saw unfortunate stories on the news where socially disadvantaged people using social welfare facilities became infected with COVID-19. Please use this donation so that socially disadvantaged people who are dealing with financial hardship do not also become more exposed to the dangers of COVID-19.”
Lee Si Young donated 10 million won to the Beautiful Foundation. Her donation will be used as the emergency fund for self-employed single mothers in the Daegu region. Daegu has the most number of infected patients in Korea and the economy in this region has halted, making it difficult for small business owners to make a living. The actress said, “I wanted to be even a little bit of help to many people who are dealing with hardship due to COVID-19. I hope that this will be delivered to single-mother families who are facing financial difficulty in the Daegu region and I hope I can give even a little bit of strength.”
Kim So Hyun donated 10 million won to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. A source from the organization told Star News, “Kim So Hyun donated hoping to prevent the spread of COVID-19.” Her donation will be used to purchase hygiene supplies and hand sanitizers.
Kim Jae Dong and his volunteer organization donated ramen and kimchi to those having difficulty after the discontinuation of free meals, along with hand sanitizer to an organization for the disabled.
A source from Kim Hye Eun’s agency stated, “On February 25, actress Kim Hye Eun donated 50 million won (approximately $41,000) to NGO Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI). Her donation to KFHI will be used to provide masks and daily necessities for children from low-income families associated with national children’s support groups and community children’s centers.” Kim Hye Eun added, “There are many people who weren’t able to purchase masks because they were busy with the necessities of life.”
B.I donated 100,000 masks to people having difficulty purchasing COVID-19 prevention items. The masks will be distributed to those in need through B.I’s fan café. He said, “I didn’t know at the time when I was using and being gifted masks, but fans were trying to protect me. I also want to give masks like how my fans protected me all this time.”
The Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation revealed that Kang Ho Dong donated 100 million won to be used towards children from low-income families. Kang Ho Dong said, “I think that children should be the first ones protected whenever and wherever an emergency situation occurs. I want to give so that children can be prioritized in being protected this time as well. I sincerely hope for the day when children can safely run around again.”
Suzy donated 100 million won to help low-income families. A source from her agency told Newsen, “Suzy gave 100 million won to the NGO Good Neighbors.”
Joo Ji Hoon donated 50 million won to NGO Good Neighbors to be used towards purchasing prevention supplies for socially marginalized people. The report stated that the actor asked his donation to be used in giving masks and hand sanitizers to children from low-income families.
According to OSEN, Gong Yoo donated 100 million won to the Community Chest of Korea under his real name Gong Ji Chul. The actor asked that his donation be used to support quarantine authorities and medical staff and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to low-income and socially disadvantaged people.
Shinhwa’s Kim Dong Wan gave 10 million won to the Daegu Community Chest of Korea for prevention and damage relief from COVID-19.
Park Bo Young’s agency BH Entertainment reported that the actress donated 50 million won to the Community Chest of Korea without informing her agency. Her donation will be used to help medical staff, the elderly, low-income, and socially disadvantaged families.
Kim Hye Soo gave 100 million won to the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Association in hopes of helping recovery efforts of the areas damaged by the spread of COVID-19.
ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo gave 30 million won (approximately $24,600) to the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Fund to assist those affected by the spread of COVID-19.
A source from Artist Company told Xportsnews, “Jung Woo Sung donated 100 million won to the Community Chest of Korea today.” His donation will be used to support children, the elderly, low-income families, and medical staff in need of prevention supplies.
Creative Group, the agency of Girl’s Day’s Hyeri, told Star Today, “It’s true that Hyeri donated 100 million won through Save the Children.” Her donation will be used to give emergency aid to children in Daegu as well as daily necessities to children from low-income families and children being raised by grandparents in Korea.
