It's Friday! What better way to look forward to the weekend than with a line-up of movies to watch? Here's 5 of the BEST Korean Films that you can watch over the weekend!
Feel free to share it with your friends and let us know if you enjoyed the movies!
Let's get it!
1 .Extreme Job (극한직업)
We're kicking off the list of best Korean movies to watch with Extreme Job, 2019's best action-comedy flick! It won Jin Seon-kyu (who plays Detective Ma, a financially unreliable cop with gambling tendencies) the Best Supporting Actor award at the 56th Grand Bell Awards, beating out Parasite's Park Myung-hoon!
Fun Fact : The movie revolves around a chicken restaurant, but the entire cast chose to turn down lucrative ad offers from fried chicken chains as they wanted the movie to represent small-business owners! Huge props and kudos to the cast!
2. A Taxi Driver (택시운전사)
One of the biggest commercial successes, A Taxi Driver was South Korea's second highest grossing film in 2017, and 11th highest in history! It was highly praised by critics and was selected as the South Korean entry for 'Best Foreign Language Film' at the 90th Academy Awards. The movie depicts a true event (the Gwangju Uprising in 1980), so watch it if you'd like to learn about Korean history!
3. Snowpiercer (설국열차)
One of the best Korean films comes from (arguably) the best Korean director of all-time, Bong Joon-ho! Whereas you might have heard about Parasite (if you haven't, it kinda won 4 Oscars), you might not have heard of his first English-language film, Snowpiercer! It was an excellent movie that centered on Bong's love for social commentary, and tackles social classes in a more sci-fi manner!
Fun Fact : A season-based TV show adaptation of Snowpiercer is currently on Netflix!
4. Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (신과함께: 죄와 벌)
One of the best Korean movies is also one of the most viewed - Along with the Gods : The Two Worlds is the third most viewed film in South Korea's history as of May 2019! This fantasy movie was based on a Webtoon series (which is fitting in the current trend of movies and TV shows based on webtoons), and already has a sequel, with 2 more installments already scheduled! It's not too late to catch up!
Fun Fact : The movie took ₩40 billion (around US$36.6 million) to produce, and it was reported that around 300 artists and technicians took part in the film's production!
