The Korean Guide To Couple Items!
안녕하세요! Kim here, and it seems like couples everywhere are always looking for that one way to showcase their undying affection for each other out and about in public! If you know anything about Korea, you would know that the number one way to do that would be with the ‘Couple/Similar Look’ trend! Today, I’ll show you my favourite items with two distinctions, a ‘Trendy Pick’ for fashionista couples, and a ‘Korean Pick’ for duos looking for items popular among Korean couples. Are you ready? Let’s get it~!
Hats
Trendy Pick
Nike - More specifically their white and black Nike Heritage 86 hats, are a perfect trendy item for you and your partner during the (never-ending) Singapore summer time! Worn by Red Velvet’s Seulgi and EXO’s Sehun, this simple fashion statement complements every look!
Where to buy : This one’s easy - Nike stores are everywhere and, if you can’t find one, they can also be easily found online! Such is the power of a brand with a truly global outreach!
Korean Pick
MLB Korea (나이키) - Just hearing about the ‘MLB’ brand would probably make you think of snapbacks and fitted hats, but MLB’s Korean division actually owns their own license from the Major Leagues, which allows them to design and sell their own products! As a result, MLB Korea’s collection of caps feature the league’s team logos (like the Yankees’ iconic ‘NY’ motif), but with more modern designs and fits. With frequent collaborations from K-Pop groups like Twice and EXO, it’s no wonder Korean couples are flocking to their trendy hats!
Where to buy : If you’re visiting the tourist hotspots in Korea, you would surely have seen the large MLB logo that makes their store standout by the street! If a quick Google search doesn’t help, their English friendly website can be found here : https://www.mlb- korea.com.
Shirts
Trendy Pick
Soccer Shirts - Rejoice, sports fans! The rise of sportswear influence in high-fashion kicked off (heh) with big-name brands like Off-White and Gosha Rubchinskiy throwing out athletic shirts with a distinctively ‘retro soccer jersey’ style look. This led to the rise in popularity of specialty stores selling soccer shirts from past seasons, much in the same vein as vintage thrift stores! Perhaps it’s time for you sports fans to convince your other half to don your favourite team’s colours with you, and look super fly while doing so.
Where to buy : If you’re in Seoul, check out Over The Pitch (오버더피치), who recently opened a new store in Mapo-gu. They also hold a select assortment of goods online, over at http://otp-store.com. Otherwise, check out La Vanita and Weston Corp at Peninsula Shopping Centre, a stone’s throw away from City Hall MRT Station!
Korean pick
Saint James (세인트제임스) - A fairly unknown brand in Singapore, this French clothing label is quickly gaining popularity over in South Korea. In fact, the brand has a rich history that dates back to the 1850s! Their striped shirts and sweaters are favoured by Koreans for its simple and effortlessly chic designs. I remember bumping into one of their stores near the historic district of Jongnu-gu, and remembered being pleasantly surprised at the quality of their classy garments.
Fun fact, they were the pioneers of the fisherman sweater, and was the reason why the French navy adopted it as their official uniform in 1858!
Where to buy : They have 2 stores in Korea, one in the aforementioned Jongnu-gu, which makes for a perfect stop if you’re heading to the famed Gyeongbokgung palace. Otherwise, their online store can be found on http://www.saint-james.co.kr.
Shoes
Trendy Pick
Fila (휠라) - A little known fact about the Italian sportswear brand is that, since 2007, it is actually a Korean company! Because of this, the company has slowly shifted its focus, and has now perfectly blended Italian standards of craftsmanship with effortless Korean style. Seen on the feet of trendsetters IU and BTS’s Jungkook, their Disruptor shoes were part of the initial ‘dad shoe’ trend that took over the world, and have since found their way into many couples’ shoe racks!
Where to buy : If you are in Singapore, they are readily available at Fila stores, and other shoe stores such as JD Sports! If you’re traveling to Korea however, it’s much cheaper (as you would expect from a Korean brand!) You’re looking at 69,000 won (aprox. SGD$80) in Korea, versus a steeper SGD$268 over here in Singapore, so take note for your next holiday (or find a Korean friend who can help!)
Korean Pick
Excelsior (엑셀시오르) - At first only available in select retailers, this design of sneaker blew up in 2017, and is gaining traction as the de-facto couple shoe for Korean couples (see brands like Box&Cox - 박스앤콕스). They come in a myriad of colours, so there’s bound to be a design and hue suitable for any couple!
Where to buy : Common shoe retailers in Korea like Lesmore have them in stock, otherwise, their wares are available online on online shopping giant Musinsa - https:// store.musinsa.com/app/brand/goods_list/excelsior and Watco - http://www.watco.co.kr.
Accessories
Trendy & Korean Pick
LLOYD The Gift (로이드) - Offering trendy and chic jewelry at fairly reasonable prices, LLOYD has long been the go-to brand for loving Korean couples looking for highly customisable accessories. One may select their desired specifications, right down to the type of precious metal used, to bespoke engraving on their item!
Where to buy : Their custom items take a few days to make, so if you’re only going to be staying in Korea for awhile, you’ll have to settle for whatever the particular boutique has in stock at that time. A quick Google search would find you the nearest boutique to your location, with a lot of them being in departmental stores. Otherwise, their online shop can be found at http://lloyd.elandmall.com.
That was my top recommendations for all things I hope you found something that fits your style, taste and budget for you and your partner (or prospective partner, we don’t judge!) Thanks for reading, and remember to stay tuned to KORDOTSIN - where we bring you the very best of everything from Korea! 읽어줘서 고마워요:)
