Part of learning the Korean language is understanding the Korean culture! In Korea (especially Metropolitan areas like Seoul), the subway is often the most convenient way to get around, and almost everybody that uses it has stories and anecdotes to tell! 

More specifically, there is a 'meta-game' and rules about seats on the subway, based on their relative comfort and convenience - something you might have unconsciously rated in your mind!
