SG's MOST SCENIC Bus Routes!!

There's nothing quite like rediscovering

the city you live in, while sitting in a bus

that whisks you past all the familiar sights

in air-conditioned comfort.

That's why the Straits Times has

compiled a list of 5 of Singapore's

most scenic bus routes,

that take you past historical locations

and modern masterpieces!

1. Bus 145

(Cultural Heartlands)

Taking Bus 145 from Toa Payoh Interchange

to Buona Vista Terminal brings you

straight through the heart of Singapore's

cultural past, as it drives through Kampong Glam,

Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar (Koreatown)!

Along the route, you can see the

famous Sultan Mosque, opulent

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the

Central Fire Station, classified as a

national monument!

Feeling peckish after a long ride?

(It takes about 1.5 hours)

Hop off at Holland Village for some

delicious food!

 

Tip : Sit on the right side of the bus,

as it offers the best views of the

sights along the route!

 

2. Bus 975

(Blast To The Past)

If you've always wondered what

the Lim Chu Kang area looks like

(or if you dreaded going there

in the past) it's a good way to relive

the memories of army/school camp days!

Taking 975 from Bukit Panjang Interchange

to Lim Chu Kang road, you will catch a

glimpse of Hai Inn Temple, the picturesque

Buddhist Monastery in Choa Chu Kang!

You will also go by a few historical sites,

such as the Choa Chu Kang cemetery

and the Lim Chu Kang heritage road.

 

Tip : The route takes 1.5 hours, and it's

advised to do it in the day-time, as you'll

barely be able to see anything in the dark!

 

3. Bus 117

(Space City)

Taking Bus 117 from Punggol Interchange

to Sembawang Interchange will transport

you to another world - reminiscent of

American cities like Seattle!

The trip takes 1 to 1.5 hours,

and will take you past the hipster enclave

around Seletar Aerospace.

After the ride, consider going down

to Wheeler's Yard to watch the planes

while having a cup of coffee!

 

4. Bus 518

(Singapore Skyline)

If you'd like to feel like a tourist

for the day - consider taking Bus 518

from Pasir Ris Interchange to Orchard!

Army boys will remember the struggle

of marching from Pulau Tekong to

Marina Bay, and this bus takes exactly

that route into Singapore's iconic sights!

This long 2.5 hour trip takes you through

Tampines and Bedok, and right into

the touristy Marina Bay Sands and

Orchard areas.

Bonus : The bus will also make a circle

around Suntec City's Fountain of Wealth!

 

5. Bus 980

(At One With Nature)

Last but not least, for the nature lovers

is Bus 980 from Sembawang Interchange

to Lor 1 Geylang Terminal!

Whereas it isn't exactly a 'sit-down'

experience (you'll have to get off to see

the sights closely!), it does whisk you

through the greenery of Singapore!

Explore the famed Sembawang Hot Springs,

as well as the nurseries and plantations

along Bah Soon Pah, a trendy

Instagram-worthy spot for greenthumbs!

The bus goes back into town,

passing by Novena and Bugis before

ending the journey at Geylang,

where you can have a nice meal!

for yourself, and take some precious

alone time from any busy schedule!
