Your GUIDE To NDP 2020 (AUG 9)!!

This year's National Day Parade will be much different from the others - instead of having the whole of Singapore congregate within one location for fireworks, there will be displays happening islandwide!

The performances and segments of the normal parade will also be livestreamed online!

With this, you might be wondering : what are all the exact details? Where can I catch the fireworks and when will the streams take place? Well, look no further as we compile all the details for you, right here in this article!

Let's go!

1. Livestreams

At 10am on August 9th, the National Day Message will be broadcasted on television, radio and 'other platforms', which we can only assume to be the official Prime Minister's Facebook page.

The message is usually telecasted live anyway, so there's nothing much that's different here - it will still be delivered in the four official languages by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

After the National Day Message, there will be a 75-minute live telecast of the parade at the Padang, including the presidential gun salute, state flag fly-past, and aerial display by Singapore's Red Lions.

There will also be an “anthem moment” led by President Halimah Yacob (pictured above) while the state flag is raised at the Padang and at various locations across Singapore.

At 7pm, Mediacorp will live-cast the NDP 2020 Evening Show, which features Singapore artistes and some short films. Following this, at 8.20pm is a 'pledge moment', where Singaporeans are encouraged to recite the national pledge together wherever they may be.

After this, there will be the coordinated fireworks display at various locations islandwide.

The next day, at 8pm on August 10th (which is a public holiday), there will be a one-hour National Day concert featuring local performers such as Nathan Hartono (pictured left), Taufik Batisah (pictured right) and Yung Raja.

2. Fireworks

After the 8.20pm 'pledge moment', fireworks will be set off in various parts of the island, but where exactly would they be set off?

The chosen places were the estates of Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Buona Vista, Jurong Lake Gardens, Marina Reservoir, Punggol, Sembawang, Tampines, Woodlands and Yew Tee.

The sites were chosen to maximise the viewership of fireworks across the island, as they will be launched 15 to 62 storeys high, viewable from up to 8km away.

You would probably be able to see them if you look up at the sky that night!

3. Live Displays

From 10.30am to 11.25am, two Chinook helicopters will fly a state flag across the island. Their exact route is seen below.
