Recently, Korean-Chinese cuisine has been blowing up in Singapore.
Thanks to the popularity of jjajangmyeon, the cuisine as a whole
is something everyone cannot get enough of.
[황실 HWANGSIL]
You cannot leave Hwangsil out when talking about Korean Chinese cuisine in Singapore. The restaurant has been a pioneer for over a decade, at the same location near maxwell.
[A new classy interior]
Hwangsil has been closed for renovation for months, and the new interior shows. Laced with both high class western and chinese decor, it gives off a unique taste.
[水井坊]
Shui Jing Fang is a unique liquor that hails from Korea and is the perfect fit for Hwangsil.
[Sweet and Sour Pork set]
A classic set of jjanjangmyeon and sweet and sour pork. The two dishes cannot be separated as a powerhouse of flavor! See how a pioneering restaurant does the classic dishes.
[Chewy noodles]
Hwangsil's famous in-house noodles delectably absorb the sauce making the dish pack powerful flavor with texture.
[Hearty flavor]
[Sweet and Sour Pork]
A more old school approach to the Korean Chinese cuisine classic. Hwangsil prepares their pork tougher and crispier, all in all giving the dish a ton of great texture and chewiness. Dip into the sauce at your leisure depending on how sweet you want it.
[Jjambbong]
An addictive sensation, spicy seafood noodles are made even better here. With their in house noodles, the same great texture from the jjanjangmyeon is present. Jjambbong is nothing without its wok hei, and the fiery scent burns strong in Hwangsil. You can tell from the first bite that this jjambbong was made with fine tuning over years.
[A rich spice]
[Seafood and Steamed Pork]
Imagine a platter of wonderfully steamed meat and seafood! From pork to octopus, this platter has it all and it does not disappoint. Surprisingly, the pork wrapped with seafood is a good match
as the two clash with a rich flavor that indicates freshness. A must try for the adventurous and gluttonous!
[A royal combo]
[Fresh out of the sea]
The sauce provided is a chili sauce vinaigrette which suits the octopus perfectly.
[Beef Sashimi]
A hard dish to find in Singapore because it requires absolute freshness. Beef sashimi is prepared in a sesame marinade, making it a delectable treat when done right. Hwangsil does not fail as the beef sashimi served to us was truly top class. The beef was so fresh, no signs of prolonged storage or a long import process.
[Sauce]
Hwangsil gives you a tough choice between three different sauces, all secret and all delicious. It is up to you how you want your beef!
[True meat lover's dish]
[Egg yolk]
To top off the beautiful presentation is a fresh egg yolk to add even more savory flavor.
[Seafood and Veg with Mustard sauce]
Don't want anything greasy? This salad-like dish is for you. Full of fresh ingredients, the seafood and veggie platter is easy to recommend. So far the dishes we have presented are on the greasier side, so this is for those looking for something more refreshing. The knife work on both the seafood and vegetables make the dish have an appealing presentation. Mustard sauce on top for a nice spicy and sour kick to go along! A must try treat, perfect for wrapping up a meal.
[Japchae]
The peak of Korean food? No need to ask, it's the famous japchae. Prepared on a strong flame, the Japchae we had at Hwangsil was top class. Because of the fiery cooking process, the vegetables all have the scent and concise flavor. When added to this fiery treat, the noodles also become rich with flavor and very chewy. A pioneer demonstration for sure.
[Army Stew]
A modern classic along with Japchae, it is the talk of the town in Singapore. Army stew had it's humble beginnings as a war time scrap meal, but recently with more refined ingredients and soup bases the dish has become a treat. Including all kinds of chewy carbs and fresh veggies and meat,
Hwangsil's army stew is a refreshing take on the dish.
[A generous portion]
When it starts boiling, add the additional sauce provided for max flavor! When everything heats up together in the boiling process is when you get the best results.
[A huge variety]
Of the many Korean Chinese restaurants, we verified this one as a pioneer. The dishes not only look the part, but have the flavor to go with it. With very obvious know-how only achieved through trial and error, Hwangsil provides the ultimate Korean Chinese cuisine dining experience.
